Matjaž Pinter

Research Fellow

Matjaž is an anthropologist (PhD) and filmmaker interested in topics from the margins of capitalism. His three-year ethnographic fieldwork (2015–2018) in mid-western Nepal explored the lives of former combatants in the aftermath of the Maoist revolution. During this time, he produced four ethnographic films that were showcased at international film festivals. His work in Nepal and China led him to focus on the challenges faced by communities reliant on the caterpillar fungus harvest. Matjaž is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Rachel Carson Center in Munich, where he combines filmmaking and anthropology to address socio-environmental issues.
